About Us

The Texas Memorial Illumination at San Jacinto will be held on November 13, 2021.

21,500 luminaries will light the fields of San Jacinto Battleground in remembrance of those Texans who have given their lives in armed conflict from the Texas Revolution through Afghanistan. Each candle represents a life given in battle but also represents a beloved son, a daughter, a sister or a spouse. People will experience this event in various ways. To some it will offer solace, to others deep emotions will be revisited. But it will be inspiring to everyone.

The number 21,500 cannot be completely understood until you see the actual number of luminaries on the fields.  This is a visual and impactful representation of the actual number of lives lost on battlefields.

The park opens to the public at 6 p.m. and will remain open till 12:00 a.m.  You will be led along a four and half mile luminary lit path through the woods then around the San Jacinto Monument – which towers 567 feet and is the tallest column monument in the world.  From the steps of the monument, you will overlook the reflection pond surrounded by luminaries.  Proceeding ahead you will be enveloped by acres and acres of luminaries on the fields of honor.   As you cross Independence Parkway you will arrive where Sam Houston and the Texan Army encamped during the Texas Revolution.  For more information on the Battle of San Jacinto go to https://www.sanjacinto-museum.org/The_Battle/
